About Me

I communte 90 miles across metro-Tampa, FL daily. I drive West in the morning and East in the afternoon. Anyone who has ever driven through Tampa, at anytime of the day will understand that I have a lot of time to dream, to think, to contemplate and question the mundane as well as the acute situations that effect the lives of the creatures of planet earth, and beyond...

The Healthcare question

While listening to a news report about how the governments plans to put a cap on CEO salaries in the financial industry, a thought slipped into my head. Many of the top CEO salaries (greater than 1 million annual plus bonus) goes to hospital and healthcare system CEOs. Now, let me think about the American healthcare crisis and attempt at reform. In Florida, there are over 200 hospitals. Now, if each CEO in those hospital's made 1 million dollars last year, that would be $200,000,000.00. That's a lot of zeros. Each of those hospitals accepts federal funding in the form of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. What if every hospital CEO had his salary capped at $500,000.00? That would save the federal government $100,000,000.00 in Florida alone. There are 50 states in the USA. Imagine if every state could save the federal government $100,000,000.00 each year by just capping the CEO salary? Well thoses hospitals also have CFOs and COOs and CNOs, etc.... many making in excess of $500,000.00 per year. What if we capped their salaries at $350,000.00. Think $50,000,000,000.00 (that's a lot more zeros) annually. How much healthcare do you think we could provide to American's with than many zeros? Just a thought.

  1. That thought makes sense--too much sense for the bureaucracy to want to follow. Just like our BIG government. Keep thinking. Are you up to being an elected official? We do need more Good, sensibly thinking people, in elected positions. More choices. I'm rambling--
By the way, love the photo of the hawk. Where was that taken?

  2. One rainy Saturday in February, I was sitting in the Florida room reading a novel about ancient empires. I had just read a line about a group of newly formed warriors. The leadweerf the group announced that they would be called the "hawks". Just then, Ray came out and said "What is that???" I looked out the window, and there, sitting in the rain on our back fence, was this beautiful hawk. She was just sitting there in the rain, staring back at me. She followed my movement as I reached for my camera, then just started possing for me while I snapped several pictures. After a few more minutes, she gracefully spread her lovely wings and glided away into the mist. True story.

  3. I have read that hawks present themselves to us as messengers. We have several hawks visiting- navigating around and above our home. It seems that there are more hawks this year than I have noticed in past years. I have also seen one chase and catch another bird at our bird feeder. (we all have to eat). I love hearing their song and watching them soar overhead. Wonder what they are trying to tell me?

  4. I think they are protecting you. Seeing them healthy and in a growing population makes me think we are finally seeing the results of so many people working for so long on making our planet greener and healthier is actually starting to have an impact. Now hopefully we can sustain the gain, and keep getting better and better.
